Finding My Way in the Working World as a Trans Professional
I'm gonna be real with you, working through the job market as a transgender individual in 2025 is absolutely wild. I've been there, and real talk, it's gotten so much more inclusive than it was back in the day.
How It Started: Beginning the Professional World
When I first came out at work, I was literally nervous AF. No cap, I believed my career was over. But here's the thing, my experience turned out much more positively than I thought possible.
My initial position after coming out was with a small company. The vibe was chef's kiss. Everyone used my right pronouns from the beginning, and I didn't have to encounter those weird conversations of continually fixing people.
Industries That Are Really Inclusive
Via my career path and networking with my trans community, here are the sectors that are genuinely making progress:
**Tech and Software**
Technology sector has been exceptionally accepting. Firms including big tech companies have extensive diversity programs. I scored a position as a software developer and the perks were unmatched – full coverage for medical transition procedures.
One time, during a standup, someone accidentally used wrong pronouns for me, and like several teammates immediately jumped in before I could even respond. That's when I knew I was in the perfect spot.
**Entertainment**
Artistic professions, marketing, video production, and similar fields have been very welcoming. The culture in artistic communities generally is more accepting inherently.
I did a stint at a branding company where who I am turned into an asset. They celebrated my different viewpoint when crafting authentic messaging. Plus, the money was solid, which is amazing.
**Medical Industry**
Funny enough, the healthcare industry has progressed significantly. Continuously more healthcare facilities and healthcare organizations are hiring transgender staff to provide quality care to LGBTQ+ communities.

Of course, agencies focused on equity missions are highly welcoming. The money might not compete with private sector, but the meaning and community are outstanding.
Working in community organizing brought me purpose and connected me to like-minded individuals of advocates and trans community members.
**Teaching**
